About the Program

If you’re curious about storms, climate change and why the weather behaves the way it does, this program is for you. Atmospheric Science at Lassonde blends meteorology, climate science and data analytics so you can understand, model and forecast the atmosphere—from local severe weather to global climate trends. 

From your first year you’ll work with real observations from York’s on-campus weather station and Meteorological Observation Tower, analyze radar and satellite data, and learn to turn global datasets into insights about local impacts such as air quality or tornado-producing storms. 

Learning is hands-on and applied. Labs, field activities and forecasting simulations help you connect theory to practice, while small classes and close interaction with faculty give you personalized support. You’ll build a toolkit in numerical modeling, data analysis and scientific communication, and you can extend your experience through the York Atmospheric Science Club.
