About the Program
Professional Writing focuses on developing strong communication skills for today’s digital and professional environments. This program offers a unique opportunity to obtain practical experience in the profession of writing while learning to write clearly and effectively for different audiences and formats, including digital media, business communication and publishing. The program combines theory with hands-on experience, giving you opportunities to create content, work on real-world projects and build a professional portfolio. Hone your area of interest by exploring one of our specializations including Book Publishing, Organizational/Corporate Writing and Digital Writing. If you enjoy writing, storytelling or communication, this program prepares you for a range of careers where clear, engaging writing is essential.

Applied Learning Opportunities
Professional Writing offers hands-on learning through applied creative and communication projects. You’ll build practical experience by creating live podcasts, editing and publishing books, designing websites and developing outreach projects for community organizations. Opportunities to work as a communications consultant allow you to apply your skills in real-world settings and collaborate with clients. Through optional paid co-op opportunities and experiential learning across your degree, you’ll strengthen your writing, editing and digital communication skills, build a professional portfolio and graduate prepared for careers in publishing, media, communications and related fields.
