About the Program
Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies shows you how to critically analyze and identify intersections of gender, race, class, age, ability and sexuality as they operate in popular culture, your everyday lives, art and science, law and politics, economies, societies and cross-culturally. Through discussion, research and community engagement, you’ll build strong critical thinking and communication skills while being taught by dynamic, award-winning faculty who are leaders in the field. If you’re interested in social change, advocacy or understanding complex social issues, this program prepares you for meaningful careers and further study.

Applied Learning Opportunities
Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies offers hands-on learning through community engagement and advocacy work. You’ll participate in field trips and hear from guest speakers, including social and community service providers, artists, activists, drag performers, lawyers, writers and politicians. You can also get involved in our two student-led clubs that focus on education and social change: The Sexual Education Collective at York and Exploring Feminism Together at York. There are opportunities for community-based research, such as collecting oral histories, a practicum course and optional paid co-op that provide professional experience within organizations and advocacy groups. Through experiential learning across your degree, you’ll build research, communication and leadership skills. In short, you’ll be prepared for meaningful, impact-focused careers when you graduate.
