About the Program
Learn what it takes to effectively make decisions to manage crises. Trained emergency management professionals are needed around the world and in this program you’ll learn how to plan for and manage crises such as natural-hazard and technological disasters, public health emergencies and security threats. You’ll study topics like risk management, crisis communication and business continuity while building strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. With opportunities for hands-on learning and placements, you’ll gain practical experience and be ready to work in government, non-profits or the private sector. If you’re interested in public safety and making a real impact, this highly specialized program gives you the skills to succeed. Our courses are taught by internationally recognized, research-active faculty and practitioners such as emergency managers.

Applied Learning Opportunities
Disaster & Emergency Management offers hands-on learning through optional co-op (paid) and placements (some paid) with government agencies, NGOs and private sector organizations. These work-integrated learning opportunities will give you practical insight into the realities of disaster and emergency response. You’ll develop practical skills through simulations including virtual reality, community-based projects, workshops, training exercises, conferences and networking events through the and our undergraduate student association ().Through experiential learning across your degree, you’ll apply classroom knowledge, build professional skills and graduate prepared for careers in disaster and emergency management and related fields.
